A Day in the Life of Fabulous Jane Jeziorski

Where’s the party this weekend? Don’t ask a senior….ask Jane Jeziorski.

In fact, “If you ever need glitter, glue guns, stars, boas, vases or bling, she is your girl,” says Development Director Donna Delaney.

Jeziorski has been planning events at Pres for 19 years, from Circle Dinners and the Auction to the Crab Feed and the Fashion Show. All told, these events have helped raise millions of dollars for Presentation over the years.

Yet when people speak about Jeziorski, it’s rarely her fundraising prowess that gets mentioned. Instead, it’s her sense of fun.

“Jane is the event queen and can morph into Marilyn Monroe as easily as she can become Elvis Presley,” says Delaney of Jeziorski’s love of dressing up.

A day in the life of Jeziorski is full of activity and hardly any time for rest. Her role is one that requires coordination with hundreds of volunteers–something at which Principal Mary Miller says Jeziorski excels.

“She loves the people she works with, especially the volunteers,” says Miller. “She literally has hundreds of people on speed dial who drop just about anything to help Jane. That’s the power of ‘relationship’ and no one does it better than Jane.”

Indeed, before she comes to school, she prepares herself for a long and busy day here at Pres. “I do all my email from home in the morning before school,” she says. She also makes as many phone calls as she can while she’s at home so she doesn’t have to bother with it at school.

Her days are often long and exhausting. The earliest she will go home is at seven, but if she has multiple meetings to attend, she will get home around 10:30 after a hectic day at school. In the past month, Jeziorski explains that she has stayed late soliciting ads for the auction directory.

Speaking of the Nov. 14 auction, Jeziorski was very pleased with the final result, which netted $320,000. Event planning is a very meticulous and time consuming job. For the auction, Jeziorski chose the theme (“It’s All About the Girls”), and the Board chose the specialty themes for each table, what the working auction girls wear, and the decorations to accompany the theme.

Jeziorski describes the preparation as “nonstop work seven days a week, for ten to 12 weeks, and five whole months in advance.” Yet at the same time, she is not only just working on auction related projects, but also other plans and events she is in charge of. In between the rush of organizing every aspect of the auction, Mrs. Jeziorski synchronized Back to School Night, the freshman development meeting, and the Poker Tournament – all during a three-week period back in August!

Even after the auction, she has to direct and create an auction party that people can bid on. On top of that, there are five other parties she has to coordinate. Being in charge of all these events, Mrs. Jeziorski is sure to be the most active woman on campus. “It is an extremely busy non-stop job,” she says.

Next on Jeziorski’s schedule is the February Crab Feed for which she has chosen the theme of “Amore.” “What’s fun about that is that it is a Valentine love theme with a motif of famous couples both from modern and historical times,” she says.

With a theme like this, and a mind like Mrs. Jeziorski, this event is sure to be a knockout. “No one enjoys hosting parties more than Jane with no detail left undone, from the glitter on the signs to the costumes and music,” confirms Delaney.

Asked what advice she would give Pres girls so that they can strive to be successful, Jeziorski says, “Enthusiasm is contagious. To succeed you have to be enthusiastic or it won’t work out. It is the key to success.”

Jeziorski further explains that you either have to love what you do or you don’t, and there is no way to fake it. People are attracted to those who are enthusiastic, and it is sure that Mrs. Jeziorski has more enthusiasm in her work than any event coordinator. Even after working in this community for 19 years, she “…never get[s] bored, because creativity is involved and themes change,” she says.

To finish up her day, she tries to unwind after getting home after dark. Mrs. Jeziorski loves to relax and admits that she is a huge TV watcher. Favorites include Letterman and CSI. But she doesn’t stay up too late; after all, she has to get up early the next day to live another busy day in her fabulous life.
